How to have the best night out in Birmingham

Birmingham is a big and diverse city filled with people of all different walks of life, and with that also comes a very diverse nightlife scene. So whether you’re after something niche or an all-round crowd-pleaser, you’ll find it in this guide to the perfect Brummie night out...

Broad Street

The initial go-to when it comes to a night out in the second city. Broad Street has been home to stag and hen parties, lively after-work drinks and student bar crawls for many years, and for good reason.

Start your night across the road at Brindley Place with a relaxed meal at Bank or The Alchemist. Both benefit from low-key but excitable vibes, as well as some of the city’s funkier cocktails.

Then once you’re suitably warmed up, take your pick from the numerous Broad Street options. We’d recommend the German Bierkeller for something different, with live Oompah bands, ice-cold steins and regular deals. But if you’re looking to dance all night, Pryzm is Birmingham’s largest nightclub and will surely tire out even the most energetic of feet.

Digbeth

The emergence of Digbeth as Birmingham’s top activity-based night out came as a bit of a surprise, but it has been a popular surprise nonetheless!

Begin your night at the place some say started it all, Digbeth Dining Club. This complex of independent bars and incredible street food vendors will leave your taste buds fully satisfied prior to a few drinks. Always a winner in the veggie/vegan category too with dedicated herbivore nights on occasion.

Continue on with a stop off at Ghetto Golf (bookings required) for a casual mix of mini-golf, classic hip-hop, graffiti and neon art and their own themed cocktails. Not feeling the golf? Visit their sister bar, Birdies, made entirely from shipping containers! Or head to Digbrew, Digbeth’s finest microbrewery and taproom, for some of the freshest beers in Brum.

Alternatively, if you’re looking for some more fun and games, The Floodgate offers a vibrant bar experience complete with baseball batting cages, table golf and curling! Meanwhile, DropShot is your place for a little ping pong and incredible wood-fired pizza. Lastly, NQ64 gives you your fix of classic console and old-school arcade gaming to treat the nerd inside us all.

Bennetts Hill & Temple Street

These parallel streets that connect at the top of Temple Row are a hotbed of city centre nightlife. On each street you’ll find some of Birmingham’s most popular bars and restaurants for a real treat of a night.

Start in Franco Manca, one of the city’s top pizza establishments. Boasting an amazing sourdough crust and plenty of fresh toppings, you’ll be all set for a great night out. Once you’re stomach’s lined, enjoy a spot of darts at Flight Club with amazing interactive games to keep you entertained all night long.

Finish your night in The Botanist for an excellent cocktail experience with a great atmosphere. Flowerpot cocktails anyone?

The New Street Station area

Nestled behind New Street Station are a host of great eateries, bars and more to entertain you all evening. Start your night with an amazing live show at the Alexandra Theatre, one of Birmingham’s top entertainment venues. With plenty of shows to choose from including musicals, comedies, live music and more, you’re bound to find the right thing to kick-off your night in style.

Once the show’s over, the night can begin properly. We love to pop down the street for a cosy chat at Bourne and Co. a quiet candle-lit cocktail bar that’s heavy on style.

Then get ready to dance the rest of the night away with trips to Island Bar and The Victoria. Hawaiian fun is on offer all night at the beach-themed Island Bar, with classic soul and hip-hop tunes ready to keep your feet moving. Meanwhile, at The Victoria, a tiny labyrinth of bars, chilled nooks and crannies and a lively dance floor await.
