National Express

Pay, rewards & benefits

Payroll

Your rate of pay will be agreed with you upon joining the Company and will be contained in your contract of employment. Most employees get paid monthly on the 27th of each month (or the Friday immediately before if the 27th falls on a Saturday or Sunday). You will receive 1/12th of your annual salary each month. Depending on when you join the Company you may receive a payment in your first month or, if you join after “payroll cut off”, then you may not receive your first pay until the month after you join. Please ask your manager for clarity.

Eligibility to Company Sick Pay is dependent on your length of service and is paid at the discretion of the Company during periods of sickness absence. Further details of Company Sick Pay entitlements are contained in your contract of employment. Overtime and sick pay are paid a month in arrears which means you will not generally receive these payments/deductions until the month after which the overtime or sickness occurred.

We will provide you with your username and password when you start employment with us and you will be able to access your own payroll records from anywhere using our secure portal that serves as a self-service tool.

Pension

Membership of a pension scheme is an important part of the package of benefits you receive from National Express. To assist employees, the company has a pension team that provides help and guidance on all aspects of the various company pension arrangements.
The company operates the "National Express WorkSave Pension Plan", a group personal pension administered by Legal and General.

More information on the WorkSave Pension Plan may be found at Legal and General.

You may have questions about workplace pensions and saving for your retirement. More information on pensions and saving for later life may be found at gov.uk/workplace-pensions.

Your Benefits

Here at National Express, we provide our people with additional exciting benefits in addition to basic pay. Our benefits show that we understand our peoples’ lives, commitments and values and we regularly review our offering and welcome any feedback.

We also value the hard work, commitment and achievements of our employees and want to recognise everyone’s personal contribution.

Reward & recognition

We value the hard work, commitment and achievements of our employees and want to recognise everyone's personal contribution.

Service Awards

We recognise and reward employees who have demonstrated consistent and loyal service to the business at key milestones i.e. 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40 and 50 years with Love2Shop vouchers.

Local Recognition Awards

We like to say thank you for a job well done. We encourage our managers to thank our staff but our Extra Miles scheme goes one step further and gives managers across the business the opportunity to reward those who go above and beyond in their day-to-day role.

All UK Coach employees and partner operator drivers have Extra Miles accounts. Extra Miles can only be spent via a dedicated website where you can check your balance and treat yourself to something fabulous to celebrate your achievement.

Go to the website NE-extramiles.co.uk and use your unique account login username and password details. You’ll be able to see how many Extra Miles you have and what you can spend them on.

Value Awards

We love to recognise those employees that live and demonstrate our values and the Values Awards recognise the effort and contribution that all our people make day-in, day-out.

Each Value has three awards, meaning there are 15 categories in each part of the business. Winners (individuals or teams) will be selected for each category from the entries submitted. Each category winner or winning team will receive £1,000.

The winners from each business area will then go through to the UK judging panel who will select the five overall UK winners to be nominated to the Annual Group Values Awards event, where they could win a cash prize of £5,000. (Teams can be represented at the Group event by up to four people).

Nominations are accepted throughout the year - look out for comms containing the link to the nomination form and to learn more about our value awards.
