West Midlands Net Zero business pledge

Doing our bit to make the West Midlands net zero by 2041

We've taken the pledge

We’re pleased to confirm that we’ve signed up to the West Midlands Net Zero business pledge and are doing our bit to make the West Midlands net zero by 2041. The pledge is a simple way for any local organisation or business to support efforts to make the West Midlands a net zero carbon economy by 2041. It asks all organisations to consider what can be done to reduce the impact on the environment. It also encourages businesses to think about how staff, customers, visitors or the supply chain can be influenced to make changes to their behaviours and actions too.

As we’re sure you know by now we have already committed to being fully zero emission from 2030 and will never buy another diesel bus for our UK business. As we work towards this goal we have already launched our first electric vehicle bus fleet out in Birmingham, and a second out in Coventry during 2020. Electric buses produce zero carbon emissions at the tailpipe and are powered by renewable energy. We are also planning to begin trialing Hydrogen buses through a partnership with Birmingham City Council and are converting our entire existing fleet to Euro VI engines. These are the cleanest, greenest diesel buses available on the market.

On top of the vehicle changes we are also making strides to reduce our footprint by switching paper bus passes to mobile or travelcard options and our head office team is always exploring ways to make our office and administration more efficient.
